After 20+ years working with fashion dignitaries, David Keyte became “less interested in fashion and more in the function, fit, and cut of garments.” He turned to his East Midland working class pride in appearance roots - a pride inherited from his father and uncles - balancing the work ahead with weekend refinement. In 2008, David started Universal Works - combining workwear sensibility with sporting and music subculture stylings. It’s David Keyte’s life, mixing ideas from his past with contemporary needs and aesthetics.

Each collection blends with the last, forming a canon of easy-wearing, well considered layers with a nuanced understanding of life as it is worn. Mostly utilitarian, often sharp, and always classic, Universal Works looks good on everyone at every age because they produce real, honest clothing based on good design and fit.

Homegrown in Nottingham, England, Universal Works uses skilled, small-scale production - choosing to work only with factories they trust, admire, and are proud to be associated with - a committed culture of garment workers that passes on that integrity to your daily vestments.
