Tangent GC founder David Samuelsson remembers his grandfather’s routine when he returned wearing his Sunday best. A chimney sweep by trade, his grandfather didn’t own a lot of clothes, but what he owned he knew how to take care of, brushing them down after use and starching the collar, taking off his wingtips and putting shoetrees in them, and then following that with a contemplative polishing. Because of mass produced, cheap, and often deficient clothing over the last couple decades, we began to lose our grandparents’ generation of knowledge of how to care for our clothes, substituting harsh chemicals over tendering appreciation.
